I wrote this poem in April of 2025.

johnny didn’t make the cut

Downloaded hinge to become unhinged
the fountain of inspiration was waning
and I needed a dose of new character energy
even if some of those characters are icky and shady
even if some of those characters annoy me
I can’t keep writing about the same old repetitive stories
reheating old trauma for the purpose of making art
after a while, it gets exhausting
after a while, it makes no sense since I’ve forgiven them all
and honestly, I can’t do another 4 years of Trump
Celibate and devoid of any romantic energy

  1. Hi Patty,
I’ve got that t shirt too!
I like your spin on cliché, which is about all was to be found on Hinge.
I moved to Feeld, which I found, at first to be more honest, where I found folk to be more vibrant, but I found that to be a mask, and I never got behind the mask,
And all the while, I kept OKC in the background. At first I called it OK Stupid, for it let me hand myself with too many words, but perhaps if those words can be left there, and I can cool it, one day, some desperate soul will sail into my harbour. Maybe.
But the more modern ones, hinge, feeld – the ones that make you but a new smartphone; they all require you keep a listening watch, which isn’t healthy.
