I wrote this poem in October of 2022.

sepia memories of my great grandmother captured her mysterious smile
months before she met her untimely demise in a fire
was she smiling about her newborn child
or because that was coquettish nature
I wrote this poem in September of 2022.

I found love and it wasnβt at a bar or an app
I found it on the soil I was born on,
I found it in the embrace of my homeland
I found it in welcome from everyone
I met and reconnected with
I found it in the accent I never had
I found love as the prodigal daughter of my country
I hadnβt seen in 32 years
I wrote this poem in September of 2025.

me and my cousins followed in our abuelas footsteps
having kids out of wedlock with men
who abandoned us and becoming the other woman
and God bless our parents for trying to break
this unhealthy cycles
but Gabrielaβs blood is too strong for any of us
to fight off properly
so at some point as we come into adulthood
we search for love in the wrong places like her,
become pick mes and suffer the consequences
of our actions
I wrote this poem in August of 2024.

this day of the dead, Iβll pay reverence to my female ancestors
iβll build a shrine with their pictures and letters to honor them
itβs the least I can do do the generational gifts passed down to me
this day of the dead, Iβll pay reverence to my female ancestor
write down their stories and later on share them
remember that doing this heals something in me,
something in them
I wrote this poem in July of 2024

I embrace the crone Iβm becoming and let go of the last vestiges of girlhood
no longer will I twirl my hair, bat my eyes, or make myself cute
and soft for the male gaze trying to get their attention
from now on Iβll accept my wrinkles, my aches, my gray hair, my crowβs feet
as proof that I have lived and experienced a life few wouldβve survived
as proof that I am a goddamn Guerrera

envuelta en un ciclo de nostalgia
cartas y fotos viejas y mΓΊsica de los 90
tratando de acordarme de quien fui
Antes de me convertirme la madre de alguien

hold onto hope, donβt let go
one day youβll laugh about this
one day youβll be okay
hold onto hope, donβt let go
Remember all of the times
youβve been strong
Remember all of the times
you put one foot in front of the other
hold onto hope, donβt let go
your story is still being written
youβre still in time to change
your narrative

quizΓ‘s es tiempo que le pida a la luna
que te olvides de mi
que pares de insistir en resucitar
nuestro cuento de amor
porque siempre vamos a querer
cosas diferentes
tu quieres una conexiΓ³n superficial
lleno de noches apasionadas
y sabanas mojadas
mientras que yo deseo algo
profundo y puro
una conexiΓ³n sΓ³lida
que me inspirara mejorar y evolucionar
quizΓ‘s es tiempo que le pida a la luna
que ya no me busques
porque por mas que yo quisiera
mi corazΓ³n no se deja ablandar
para ti por mas que lo intente

soy la poeta maldita del siglo 21
atormentada, depresiva, dramatica,
salvaje, sin vergΓΌenza, obsesionada
con la muerte
y las poetas malditas de siglos
antepasados
soy la peor pesadilla de esta sociedad
machista
me vestirΓ© con un aire rosado y dulce
pero de mi boca saldrΓ‘ una energΓa
feminista y salvaje
y me valdrΓ‘ madre incomodar a la gente
y no me importara del “que dirΓ‘nβ
y por eso me consideran
una arma maldita y peligrosa
en la sociedad
Here’s a poem I wrote about being Peruvian American:
I wrote this poem in April of 2024.

thousands of indigenous children never made, never born
Fujimoriβs presumptuous superiority and cruel policies
caused this inhumanity, this crime against the most marginalized
the poorest
robbing thousands of women of their right to procreate
a shameful part of Peruβs history
thousands of indigenous children mourned
who were never planted, never had a chance to bloom
perhaps their existence was a threat to those in power
full of corruption, now weβre never know
