Poetry: By Starlight

Me in 2018 on the way to see C

By starlight

I saw the brightness of the moon

As he sat next to me

Talking to me about nothing

And yet everything

All at once

By starlight

I saw the shadow

Of his large hands

And felt the roughness

Of them as he

Clumsily held my hands

In his

By starlight

I saw the silhouette

Of his muscular legs

As he nervously

Inched himself towards me

And I felt his warmth

By starlight

I saw the smallest

Shimmering of the stars

And felt his tender kiss

On my neck as he pulled my hair

And I felt the newness of love

Poetry: Intoxicated

I am intoxicated

  by his desire for me

He seems to accept who I am–

  Wrinkles and craziness and all

and he doesn’t try to change me

He makes me feel valued

  and appreciated and

that I matter in his life

Being with him fills me

 with happiness, peace

and a joy I’ve never known

and for the first time

my heart isn’t filled

With anxiousness

of whether I’m good enough.

Poetry: Lust High

I wrote this in December of 2002. This was written about John before he ghosted me. If you can’t tell already, I have a tendency to idealize the men in my life.

it be like that sometimes

I haven’t felt this way in a while
I just get high from talking to you
You just drive me so damn wild

You just don’t know
How you about kill me
When you have to go

Now I couldn’t even imagine
Living without your presence
You are my most wonderful sin

And I will pray every night
That my love you never try to fight

Poetry: Could I Be The One?

I wrote this in December of 2002 about John. I had only known him a couple of weeks and had already become so infatuated with him and obsessed.

love is an adventure

Could I be the one
who makes you stop having fun?
Could I be the girl
who becomes your whole world?
Could I be the light
in your darkest nights?
Could I be the passion
who becomes your inspiration?
Could I be the hope
Who helps you cope
Could I be the love of your life
and possibly even your wife?

Poetry: Early Excitement

I wrote this in November of 2002 after meeting John. When I get excited about someone, I get EXCITED!

basically

I don’t know how you got me
to feel like this again
So happy, so free
For once, I’m excited about living
Maybe it was the way
We danced to the music
Quickly finding our own rhythm
Or the way you kissed me
Gently on my face
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s love

Poetry: Inspiring

I wrote this in 2002 about John. John was this dude that I met in late 2002 at a bar. We danced and I fell into infatuation for him right away. He was a recent college graduate and so innocent. Maybe it was because he reminded of Andrew. Idk. What I do know is that this poem has some serious “Joe Goldberg” vibes. Lol.

right away

I know this may seem crazy
But the thought of you inspires me
And I know we just met
But this needs to be said
I already miss you
And want to learn everything about you
Starting with your last name
And are you like
me, love insane?

Poetry: Precious Moments

I wrote this in 2002 about my ex Andrew whom I dated briefly in 1997/1998. Well, we’ll call him the first Andrew because I love to recycle names. Lol. I had a tendency to get nostalgic about because the love and infatuation I felt for him was really, really intense. Also, our story was kind of crazy in its own right but that’s another blogpost. I’ll just say that I idealize him and placed him on a pedestal for many, many years after we broke up.

so true

I think of you tonight
More than I do on most nights
Listening to this melancholic song
Brings back all of those precious moments
With you in my mind
When we were each other’s whole world
And nothing or no one else
mattered except you and I
And I wonder if I ever run through
that beautiful mind of yours
Or if I ever reached your heart
if even for the briefest mom

Poetry: Confession

I wrote this in January of 2002 after I met my married coworker Lucas to who I became attracted to . I think I had just known him for a week but right away I became infatuated with him.

sometimes you can’t help who you’re attracted to

What am I doing?
Longing and yearning
For something that so obviously
not meant to be
What am I doing?
Hoping and wishing
that you’ll leave her soon
so you’ll be my love king
What am I doing?
Allowing to lose myself
Driving me to confess
That there’s something I feel
Maybe this time it’s for r

Poetry: Man of My Destiny

I wrote this in January of 2002 about Lucas , my married coworker. We are finally at this chapter of my life; yeah, the one where I fell “in love” with my married coworker. I was 20, almost 21 and he was 31. This was one of the most interesting and tumultuous seasons of my love life due to the crazy circumstances surrounding it but that’s another blog post. Lol.

attraction

And so I finally meet
The man of my destiny
But of course
There is a minor oversight
He is bound to another by law
But does his face light up
when she enters the room?
Does he desire me as I desire him?
Does he care for her the way I care for him?
Does he still want her as bad as I want him?
